PS Did you obtain copyright permission from UBCO-TV to record and upload your version of the Ryder-Mckay debate? Just wondering...

UBC0-TV will be uploading the entire debate at http://ubco.tv/
    by mid-February.

    1. Hi David,

I was at that talk, glad to see a copy of it online.

I wasn't aware that "UBCO-TV" had a copyright of the debate. Since we had a CFI member on the other side of the debate we'd been asked for someone attending to record it, saw many other camera's there, and spoke briefly with Sam ( UBCO Creation Club chair ) beside my camera and he hadn't mentioned anything about it. I also assumed since it was a public lecture, that it would be ok to share as long as I was not profiting from it, and linked back to the official blog for the debate.

My main intention was simply to let people see what I was able to capture until the much better version ( better camera, sound and position ) was uploaded with the official link on the main site. If there is any actual copyright issue with this, I have no problem removing the video from my channel.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and I will look into it right away.

    2. I just sent off a query to UBCO-TV about this using their contact form. Once I get a reply, I will act immediately.

Thanks again for bringing this to my attention. Last thing I wanted to do was have any copyright issues :)

    Asked by who?

You saw the 3 UBCO-TV cameras and camermen there. You didn't think that maybe you should go up to one of them and ask if you could record the debate???

  3. Loren ( CFI Branch leader ) had asked on the FB page for a volunteer from CFI to record it. I was the one that said sure, since I had a camera that was good enough.

I didn't know there were "3 UBCO-TV men" there. I remember seeing several cameras, and then one in particular looked like some sort of media. I had ( incorrectly ) thought it was someone from a news source.

I was at the side, with a tripod and camera set up quite obviously, and nobody had come and asked me not to record it either.

Like I said, it's not a matter of ill intent , it's just a matter of a misunderstanding, and lack of preparation time, and I'm looking into this since you've brought it up.

  4. I talked to Rosemary from the UBC Media Center and she told me that the only "copyright" she has for the event was the actual recording they made themselves, and not for the event itself.

I have now sent off an email to John MacKay to ask if he is ok with having this posted, with the explanation of what has happened, since a better copy will be up soon anyways.
